Who I am

Hi! My name is Dario Bertoni, I was born in 1973 in Italy. In 2004 I moved to Japan where I am living today. I worked in various Japanese firms and in 2018 I started working on my own. I speak English, Italian and Japanese.

I really like history, with it it is possible to nderstand the modern Japanese. I like to understand what the nature of things, the origin of habits, preferences and attitudes of people. And I also take great pleasure in explaining and telling to other people.

Japan is the result of many past events that changed the country, sometimes slowly and sometimes so quickly that many aspect of the past were left in the process.
Japan is a patchwork of various elements, that can be difficult to understand. The country, as it is today, is the result of centuries of innovation, sometimes brought about by outside forces and other times as a result of the dedication of engaged people. Along with their amazing skills in engineering, craftsmanship, and manufacturing, the Japanese have also woven together a civilization that has grown increasingly complicated through time.

So while planning a vacation to Japan, there are two things to look into.
There is a tour into tangible locations, passing through serene gardens, magnificent temples, busy stores, and vibrant markets.
However, there is also a journey into the Japanese cultural world, where one can learn about a complex and sophisticated society with unique characteristics like a strong appreciation for beauty, a preference for consistency and order, a sense of respect and coexistence, as well as the joy of leisure and extravagant fun.

Some of the many themes that accompany my tours are why the Japanese built wooden temples, why they practice two religions, why gifts must be given and received in a certain way, how certain foods have influenced generations’ way of life, and what ancient customs have evolved into contemporary practice. In Japan, there are countless remarkable things to be admired.
Understanding is better than just seeing, as it makes travel an opportunity to learn and discover.

Routes and transport

• A typical day of visit lasts about 8 hours and takes place on foot and by public transport.
• It is advisable to let me know which tickets the visitor has (JR Pass, bus passes, etc.).
• There is the possibility to use the JR Pass for some urban routes of Kyoto, Osaka and Nara so it is recommended to always have it with you.
• Since the visit itinerary always includes destinations of historical interest, it is possible to face uphill routes and stairways.
• Some destinations of interest, such as the best-known temples, require the payment of an entrance ticket.

Visitors

• Groups of up to 8 people are accepted.
• The are numerous Japanese temples that require you to remove your shoes to visit the internal areas. We recommend wearing shoes that are easy to take off and put on.
• The day of the visit does not have to be a tiring marathon, it takes place at a normal pace, but there is a lot to see and different stretches to cover on foot. Kyoto in particular is a very large city with places of interest spread over a very large area. The urban transport service is not entirely adequate for the size of the city.

Don’t forget:
• Always comunicate if there are children under 6, children in pushchairs or people with difficulty walking for a long time among the participants.
• Always comunicate the name of your accommodation and preferably also your telephone number.
• Always comunicate if there are people who have special dietary needs or allergies among the participants, or if they have specific times to take medicines.
• Also, comunicate about your needs and habits. Some may play a role in the day. For example, in Japan you cannot smoke on the street, you have to go to designated places for smokers. If you smoke, let me know so that we can make stops in designated areas.
